Relationship Skills 101
I wish they taught this stuff in school
Have you said this before, or heard others remark something like it?
We spend years learning math, history, science, and literature, but some of what matters even more, like relationships, communication, conflict, parenting, money, in-laws, intimacy, and all the complicated decisions of adult life, we mostly need to figure out as we go.
And then we often feel unprepared when things get bumpy.
A lot of this can be learned.
Relationship Skills 101 is a practical course designed to teach clear, simple, easy-to-implement concepts and tools for building healthy relationships and navigating the normal challenges that inevitably come with them.

For whom is this course?
Relationship Skills 101 is for anyone who wants to learn how to build healthy, strong relationships.
Dating / Hoping to Date
and want to develop some of these skills before you're in a serious relationship.
Engaged / Newly Married
and looking for a practical foundation for building your life together.
Married for Years
and interested in strengthening your relationship and adding some new tools to your toolbox.
Parents / Educators / Therapists / Curious Learners
and the skills that help them thrive.
The course is taught within a religious Jewish framework, and some of the examples and discussions will naturally reflect that perspective and culture.
At the same time, the underlying principles we're exploring, communication, conflict resolution, boundaries, decision-making, family dynamics, intimacy, managing stress, and so much more—are based on broader research and relevant to people and relationships across many different backgrounds.
You don't need to be at a particular stage of life or relationship to benefit.
If you want to understand relationships better and learn practical skills for navigating them well, you're welcome here.
What if you could learn these skills before you needed them?
Healthy relationships don't always happen simply because two good people love each other.
They often require skills.
- How do you communicate when you don't agree?
- How do you handle conflict without making things worse?
- How do you manage big feelings between you?
- How do you address differences in values, money, parenting, religion, libido, or expectations?
- What happens when your families of origin have very different dynamics?
- How do you make big decisions (and small) when you're stressed, overwhelmed, or simply see things differently?
- And what about the conversations that can feel awkward, uncomfortable, or downright impossible to have?
You don't have to figure all of this out by trial and error.
Relationship Skills 101 will give you a framework for thinking about these issues—and practical tools you can actually use.
What we'll cover:
Over the course of the series, we'll explore some of the most important skills and common topics involved in building and maintaining healthy relationships, including:
Communication & Conflict Resolution
Learn how to communicate clearly, regulate emotionally, listen effectively, express needs and wants, navigate disagreements, and repair after conflict.
Roles, Responsibilities & Family Life
How do couples decide who does what? How do you divide responsibilities fairly? And how do you navigate the realities of running a home and raising a family over time?
Parenting & Family Dynamics
Different parenting philosophies, decision-making, teamwork, and the inevitable moments when two people don't see things the same way.
Socializing, Community & Recreation
Friendships, social expectations, community involvement, hosting, downtime, travel, and figuring out how you want to spend your days and evenings, making time for things that matter to you outside the home, while prioritizing your marriage and family.
In-Laws & Families of Origin
Understanding how each person's family background influences a relationship, and learning how to engage with in-laws and extended family in ways that work for the couple.
Financial Literacy
Money is about much more than numbers. We'll discuss financial habits, budgeting, spending, saving, donating, prioritizing, decision-making, and the role that money plays in our lives.
Values & Religion
How do you identify the values that matter most to you? And how do religious beliefs and practices inform and work within the couple's life together, especially as they evolve over time?
Fidelity & Boundaries
What does it mean to be faithful? What boundaries help protect a relationship? And how do couples define fidelity and exclusivity for themselves? Discussions around sensitive issues such as past relationships and pornography can be difficult but clarifying growth promoting.
External Stressors & Big Decisions
Life doesn't always go as planned. We'll talk about how relationships are affected by stress, curveballs, major transitions, difficult circumstances, and important decisions.
Physical & Mental Health
How do health values and challenges affect a relationship? What does it look like to support each other while still taking responsibility for your own wellbeing?
Sexuality & Intimacy
Sexuality and intimacy are some of the most vulnerable and often taboo-feeling topics to discuss, and yet they play a central role in marriage. We will learn vocabulary and ideas to help you develop the ability and confidence to talk about them openly, respectfully, and thoughtfully.
Practical. Realistic. No Jargon.
This isn't a course about creating a "perfect" relationship.
Because that's not really a thing.
We're not making any grandiose promises, miracle stories, or one-size-fits-all gimmicks.
It's really about understanding what the data tells us about what helps relationships work well between motivated, caring partners, recognizing and preempting common pitfalls, and developing skills that can help you collaborate in real life situations with greater insight and clarity.
We'll use straightforward language, emotional awareness, practical examples, and ideas you can take away and apply immediately.
The course is geared towards a predominantly Jewish demographic, but the skills and principles are not limited to one particular community or background. Whether you're strictly observant, moderately religious, or simply interested in learning more about healthy relationships, there is plenty here that can be applied to most relationships.

Each class will include:
Teaching + Q&A
Clear, practical lessons on that week's topic 45-60 minutes
Bring your questions and let's talk about the related and relatable examples that don't always fit neatly into a spreadsheet (up to about another 15-20 minutes)
Recordings
Classes will be recorded and available for re-listening for a limited period of time.
Can't make it live?
 That's okay!Â
You can still participate.
Watch or listen to the recording afterwards, and you'll also have the option to send in questions between classes. I'll do my best to address those questions during the next session.
JOIN RELATIONSHIP SKILLS 101You don't have to already be in a relationship to benefit from this course
In fact, there can be a significant advantage to learning these skills before you need them in a romantic relationship. Much of what makes a marriage healthier can be practiced and utilized in other relationships as well.
If you're single, dating, engaged, newly married, married, or simply hoping to build a healthy relationship someday, this course can help you think about these issues before you're already in the middle of them.
And if you're already married or in a long-term relationship, you'll have the opportunity to build and strengthen skills that can upgrade and make a meaningful difference in everyday life.
There's no wrong time to learn how to do relationships better.
Ready to learn the things they (probably) didn't teach you in school?
You don't need to have all the answers.
You don't need to have a perfect relationship.
And you certainly don't need to wait until there's a problem.
Come learn love skills.
Let's make healthy relationships a little less mysterious—and a lot more manageable.
